I’m a personal trainer and small group fitness trainer at a new startup called FluxFit. Sadly they were only open 10 days before gyms were shut down. Instead of in-person, I’m now doing things virtually by taking videos and posting my workouts. I’m also blogging about fitness and have done one nutrition Instagram Live for members.
It’s a lot harder to have that work/life separation balance. 90% of videos have my toddler running around or chatting away to me. And workouts can take a lot longer between two children. Also have to drag myself to workout since I’m home. Less motivation.
Personal training, while very physical, is also very much mental. If you’re not connecting with the trainer than there’s usually a higher chance results won’t happen since clients won’t have the motivation to adhere to their plans.
What I like most about my job, and what I wish was different… I love getting people to their goals. It’s seems cliché, but these people work really hard one their nutrition and their fitness. It’s great when the hard work pays off.
I’d love to continue having the option to do some virtual training for clients who aren’t comfortable to return just yet. I’m assuming most gyms will completely toss it as they reopen.
What I’ve struggled with must during this time and what I’ve found to be the biggest blessing… Personally, the struggle is getting my body back to where it was for when we open. As I had baby only 11 weeks ago, there is pressure to look good once we open, but being stuck in a house doesn’t always jive the best with my snacking habits. Also I’m limited in my workouts due to lack of equipment so I’m always stuck trying to get creative for my videos.
The biggest blessing has been essentially an extended maternity leave. More time with my kids has been great for the most part.
Outside of work I’ve spent the little free time I get from the kids catching up on my videogame and book backlog. I’ve read a ton and my PS4 has had a lot of use in the past weeks.
At home my typical day is recording my workout to post. Also reporting on my results on weight loss. Once we reopen it’ll be teaching about 2 classes a day l, and I’d imagine a few clients a day once we reopen.
It’s just an overall weird time. I’ve never had to train virtually and I’ve never put myself out there this much on the internet. Yes I’ve posted results from my previous pregnancy but this pregnancy largely killed my stomach and I’m showing it all off despite the slow going.
But I’m also humbled to show that every woman has their struggles postpartum or in general with weight, even the most perfectly fit people have a story to tell.
